Trail Maintenance in Shenandoah National Park

Description

Join Shenandoah National Park for a day of trail work in the South District of the park.  Project begins at 9 a.m. and will end around 2 p.m. Volunteer work performed will chiefly involve routine trail maintenance and rehabilitation of graded foot trails. Work includes repairing erosion control structures, retaining walls, and tread surface; removal of vegetation growth, fallen and loose rock, and tree obstructions from trails; and litter removal. Wear sturdy boots, long sturdy pants, and clothing that is appropriate for the weather. Please do not wear leggings or yoga pants for this work project. Be sure to bring any food or water you may need for the day, as well as sunscreen and bug spray. Tools and gloves will be provided. This project can accommodate up to 6 people.

Q: Driving Directions
A: Volunteer opportunity will take place in the southern district of Shenandoah National Park. Volunteers will come into Shenandoah via the entrance station at Afton Mountain.

Q: Plan for bad weather.
A: Work will continue in light rain, but will cancel if thunder and ligtning is present.
