Who We Are

As the leading provider of youth development programs in the area, Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Virginia (BGCCVA), founded in 1991 and opened in 1992, operates as an affiliate of Boys & Girls Clubs of America. The Club serves 2,400 boys and girls, ages 6 - 18, residing in the City of Charlottesville and the counties of Albemarle, Buckingham, Fluvanna, Orange and Madison in a total of six Clubs. Programs are open to all young people, particularly those from disadvantaged circumstances, for a basic membership fee of $15 (teens) to $150 per year, depending on locality, that is waived if not affordable. The Club is open from 2:30pm -6:30pm during the school year and from 8am -5:30pm during the summer and school breaks. Hours coincide with the time of the day when youth are statistically most at risk for risk-taking behaviors. Several Clubs offer expanded hours on weeknights and weekends.

BGCCVA’s mission is “to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens.”
