The Paramount Theater of Charlottesville

It is our mission to:

• Offer the Central Virginia community a wide range of arts, education, and entertainment events with the goal of reaching diverse audiences and enriching our community
• Present educational programming for school-age children, teens, college students, and the community at large
• Make our facilities and resources available to charitable, arts, community, and other organizations and individuals for presentation of their performances and events.

Only through the dedicated volunteers and donors who support us are we able to fulfill our mission.

The Paramount Theater of Charlottesville was built in 1931 and operated for many years as a movie theater until a fire in the 70's closed its doors. It was renovated and relaunched in 2004, by the community and for the community, and stands today as a gleaming testament to the enormous community effort that rebuilt it.

Oscar Wilde regarded the theatre as "the greatest of all art forms, the most immediate way in which a human being can share with another the sense of what it is to be a human being." The Paramount helps unite us as a community, not only through the power of the arts, but also as a critical cornerstone of our wonderful Downtown Mall. As a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) venue, The Paramount remains uniquely dedicated to championing the role of all art forms in our community, for all members of the communtiy. Only at The Paramount will you find young and old united through the power of incredibly diverse programming, which includes just this year the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis, Pink Martini, The Metropolitan Opera, National Theatre Live from London,  Savion Glover, Jessye Norman, Arlo Guthrie, Terry Gross, classic family films, and so much more, with Lang Lang and Downton Abbey coming soon.
