Charlottesville Area Riding Therapy

Our mission is to provide therapeutic recreational horseback riding to children and adults with special needs in Charlottesville and the surrounding areas. CART was founded in 2000.

The CART approach is to have fun while encouraging our riders to try new and challenging exercises on horseback! Our lessons are flexible and rider-centered which means that we work with the needs, interests, and abilities, of our riders. We integrate play with purposeful activities aimed at promoting new skills and behaviors while identifying and reinforcing underlying skills. Sessions are conducted during the spring, summer, and fall, of each year. Sessions range from 30 minutes to 1 hour long. All of our therapeutic riding sessions are given by a Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship (PATH) certified instructor.
