Who We Are
On Our Own is a Peer Support Recovery Center for folks in the Charlottesville and surrounding counties experiencing mental health and substance abuse challenges. We operate on the premise that anyone can get well and stay well.
The goal at On Our Own is not to “fix” anyone. We have thirty years of experience helping people who struggle with mental health challenges and addiction, and have been in similar places ourselves. But we do not believe that anyone is wise enough to dictate the course of anyone else’s recovery. Our goal, rather, is to empower people to understand where they are, where they have been, and to chart their own way forward.
What We Do
Our mission is to provide mutual support, self-help, advocacy, education, and information and referral services to individuals who have experienced significant problems in their lives due to mental health/substance abuse challenges, and who acknowledge this, while advocating for positive changes within the traditional mental health system. We offer free support groups and walk-in peer support 6 days a week. Our house provides a recovery oriented community full of hope and support.
