Do you enjoy solving puzzles? Are you handy with a hammer? Savvy with a screwdriver? Here at the Store, we get lots of unassembled furniture, and are always looking for folks to help us put it together. We also occasionally receive donations that need some TLC – reattach legs, repair drawers, or restore a damaged piece. Even if you’re not very experienced, we have several regular volunteers that will be happy to work with you.

 Responsibilities:

Assemble new boxed furniture Perform minor repairs on new and donated items Identify pieces too badly damaged to be restored, and separate out as appropriate Observe product tracking and tool use guidelines to ensure safe and orderly assembly area

 Qualifications:

Ability to lift and move at least 20lbs. General knowledge about tool use and furniture assembly Willingness to work with diverse partner groups Positive attitude and good interpersonal skills

The moving specialist acts as an assistant to our driver and enables him to work faster, safer and more efficiently. By supporting this process of getting donated items to the store, onto the floor and sold in a timely manner, you help Habitat’s mission of building safe and affordable homes for hardworking low income families. Because all proceeds from Habitat Store sales benefit building materials for Habitat homes in Charlottesville.

While on the road with our driver, you get to see different parts of the community and meet some of the great people and organizations who donate to the store. This direct contact with our donors enables you to become an ambassador for the Charlottesville Habitat affiliate. We hope you consider joining our passionate team at the store!
