Front Desk volunteers are vital to IRC operations, greeting each and
every person who visits the office, and assisting them with whatever
they may need (e.g. directing clients to staff members for meetings,
accepting donations, answering basic questions about services).
Volunteers are also in charge of answering the phone and transferring
calls/messages to staff members.
Volunteers must have a keen attention to detail, and the ability to
handle multiple tasks/situations simultaneously in a complex
environment. In addition, volunteers must be culturally sensitive and
respectful of diverse backgrounds, self-motivated and comfortable
working with little supervision, and able to handle sensitive client
information confidentially. Most importantly, front desk volunteers need
to be welcoming and eager to help newly-arrived refugees settle into
their new Charlottesville community.
