There are many community members -- both unhoused and those living in extreme poverty -- who depend year-round on The Haven day shelter as a resource center providing basic necessities like food, hygiene products, and free laundry services, as well as access to critically-needed housing programs.

We’re grateful for your help meeting some of these basic needs, especially during the cold, harsh winter months. Items can be placed in whatever "pack" you have: recycled grocery bags (paper or plastic), reusable totes, gallon ziplocs, drawstring bags, or any other type of bag.

Each pack must consist of the following items:

Adult-sized beanieAdult-sized pair of winter glovesLip balmCough drops or lozenges (at least 5)Optional add-ins include: hand or foot warmers, tissue packs, travel-sized Vaseline or body lotion, and scarves.

Once you’ve collected the supplies and organized the packs (at your own location), please reach out to Ocean Aiello to coordinate a drop-off. Drop-offs can occur any weekday between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm.

Volunteer opportunities are available in The Haven’s day shelter and kitchen every day of the week. Come join our lively team of volunteers and staff to support neighbors experiencing homelessness!

Volunteer requirements:

18 years of age or older

attend orientation

can commit to 1-2 volunteer shifts per month

KITCHEN VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITIES

Prepare and serve healthy breakfasts (chop vegetables, cook eggs, make coffee, serve on the line, wash dishes, clean up)

Sort food donations

Prepare vegetables and fruit for storage and for upcoming meals

DAY SHELTER VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITIES

Greet and tend to the needs of guests at our welcome desk

Assist guests with filling out paperwork and job applications or scheduling appointments

Disperse needed items to guests, such as laundry detergent, soap, shampoo, lotion, and toothbrushes

For former guests and community members experiencing severe housing instability we provide folks to-go "hygiene packs" with the most-requested hygiene supplies.

The items can be placed in whatever "pack" you all have: recycled grocery bags (paper or plastic), reusable totes, gallon ziplocs, or any other type of bag.

Each pack must consist of the following items:

- 1-2 rolls of toilet paper

- ziploc bag of laundry pods or powder detergent (enough for a few loads)

- bar of soap

- stick of deodorant

- disposable razor

- full-sized toothbrush and toothpaste

 

Additional items can be added, such as shaving cream, shampoo, or washcloths, but are not necessary.

 

Once you’ve collected the supplies and organized the packs (at your own location), please reach out to me (Ocean Aiello) via phone or email to coordinate a drop-off. Drop-offs can occur any weekday between 7:00 am and 5 pm.
