Who We Are

Our Mission  We bring people together to build and rebuild homes and communities while catalyzing new pathways to safe, decent, affordable homes.

Our Service Area  Habitat for Humanity of Greater Charlottesville builds in the city of Charlottesville and in Albemarle County. We also have chapters in Greene County and Louisa County and have built in Buckingham County.

Our Approach  Habitat Charlottesville has taken the basic Habitat model – bringing together community volunteers to build houses in partnership with families in need – and scaled it up. In the past few years, we have been responding to the local affordable housing crisis with a bold new approach, shifting our focus from single homes to whole neighborhoods and communities.

What We Do

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Charlottesville was founded in 1991 as an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International (click here to read HFHI's mission statement). Over the past two decades, we have built homes in partnership with more than 100 local low-income families. We own the local Habitat Store, which raises money for Habitat homes by selling building products and other donated materials.
