Description

Columbia Mobile Food Pantry

The Mobile Food Pantry allows us to reach poverty-stricken areas in remote, rural communities in the counties surrounding Charlottesville – southern Albemarle, Nelson, Buckingham and Fluvanna counties.  We work in partnership with local food pantries, churches and community centers to reach people in need. Eight times each month, we distribute more than five tons of nutritious food, much of it perishable items like produce, meat and dairy products.

We typically distribute the food outdoors at a church or community center where dozens of volunteers are waiting to unload the truck and help bag groceries for people in need.  A typical mobile pantry visit lasts two hours and provides 200 to 250 families with nutritious food to help them make their ends meet. Volunteers help setup and serve clients.

Dress code will be closed toe shoes, comfy clothing that is ok getting dirty.  Rain coat if it is raining, etc.
