Description

The Moormans River Runs Through It! - Disability Access.  This River Access Project is a collaborative effort by Thomas Jefferson Trout Unlimited (TJTU) and Therapeutic Adventures, Inc.

Volunteers will continue efforts to make more accessible trails and environmental improvements to the TJTU Section of the Moormans River. You will be cutting new trails and improving existing access trails - making them accessible for people with mobility impairments. We will also be doing work in the river to improve the aquatic eco-habitat for trout. Wear long pants/LS shirt. Bring work gloves and drinking water; boots or old shoes if you want to work in or near a stream. Waders, shoes, boots that can be worn in the river.  Bring the following tools if you have them: hand tools such as hand clippers, pruning loppers, pruning saws, garden rakes, shovels, hoes, mattocks, and picks, wheel barrels. **For those with experience - chain saws, and weed-eaters.  

We will provide water and lunch for all volunteers.

MOORMANS RIVER Mark’s Mobile Number – (434) 981-5834 http://www.mapquest.com From US 29 – Emmet Street – Make a turn on Barracks Road (West) From Barracks Road Shopping Center it is approximately 15 miles. It is pretty much a straight shot!  Once in Charlottesville take Barracks Road west as you go past the BR shopping center you will go past 7/11 on the right.  Remain on Barracks Road (SR654). You will come to a traffic light @ Georgetown Road (Go straight)  You will go past Barracks Road Market on the Right. Remain on Barracks Rd.– it will turn into Garth Road (SR 654 turns into SR 614). Go straight – You will go down a big hill and then up a big hill (Old Garth Road) will be on the left DO NOT turn) – CONTINUE STRAIGHT – you will pass several big beautiful homes and farms on both side of the road. Enjoy the scenery! This section of the trip is approximately 11-12 miles.  You will come to Foxfield Race Course on the Left – KEEP GOING STRAIGHT! You will then see Hunt Country Market on the Right. Keep going straight.  You will then pass Owensville Road on the Left – KEEP GOING STRAIGHT  You will then pass Olivet Presbyterian Church on the Left -- KEEP GOING STRAIGHT.  You will then cross over Mechums River - KEEP GOING STRAIGHT.  You will then pass a big open meadow on the right – Millington Road -- KEEP GOING STRAIGHT.  You will then pass a road to Lake Albemarle on the left -- KEEP GOING STRAIGHT.  You will then pass – Wyant’s Country Store- White Hall on the right and a road to Crozet on the left directly across from the store. -- KEEP GOING STRAIGHT.  You will then see where the road forks to the right. SR614 continues straight. Route 810 goes to the right. KEEP GOING STRAIGHT on SR614. Garth Road will then turn into Sugar Hollow Road- SR614. The Piedmont Store and Post Office will be on the right.  Continue straight on Sugar Hollow Road (SR614) approximately 3.7 miles – You will see the Moormans River on the right and left side of the road as you cross over a few little bridges.  You are almost there!  Camp Sugar Hollow will be on the left. WELCOME to the beautiful Sugar Hollow area and the adjacent Shenandoah National Park.  The TJTU Section of the Moormans River where we will be fishing is just past the camp.
