We are looking forward to having you join us at the Moormans River Trout Management Area on Wednesday, September 17, 2025. We have a full day of work planned from 9am til 2-3pm.
As volunteers with our Day of Caring project - “A Moormans River Runs Through It,” you will be making the site more accessible for the programs we offer at this beautiful Thomas Jefferson Trout Unlimited “Catch & Release” stream. Our upcoming 22nd annual ADAPTIVE ANGLERS ON THE FLY - Fly Fishing Camp for Disabled is scheduled for December 5-7, 2025.
During the “Day of Caring,” volunteers will be doing some site clean up, trail clearing, and building. You will also work preparing the stream bed making rock and log dams. Our goals are: (1) to have a more beautiful and accessible river; and (2) to further develop a more sustainable and thriving aquatic environment for trout.
We will provide all volunteers with water, and a stream-side lunch. Plan for the weather with long pants, sunscreen, hat, work gloves, sunglasses, safety glasses, and boots. You may get a little wet working in or near the river. **So you may want to bring a change of clothes (optional) **To help us, please bring any tools that you can. We will have some as well.

Hedge Shears (2-3): Hedge shears feature long hands with steel blades of up to 10 inches in length. This is a two- handed tool that can be used not only for landscaping hedges, but also for snapping off twigs and branches up to 1/2 inch thick.
Lopper (2-3): The lopper features very long handles and a very short cutting area. This tool requires the use of both hands to create the leverage needed to allow you to lop off small branches and stems or to reach places too far away for the use of hedge shears.
Chainsaws (2-3): The chainsaw can be a vital landscaping tool for more rustic landscaping plans. In the hands of a trained individual, the chainsaw can be used to shape topiaries. The chainsaw also can be used to clear away tree limbs and thin out your landscaped area to better highlight your focal points.
