Who We Are
The Free Book Bus was founded in October 2018 to bring books to children who may have difficulty accessing them. We give away books at schools, public housing developments, food pantries, homeless shelters, and certain public events.
We take our book bus to those who cannot easily afford and/or access books in Charlottesville, Albemarle, and the surrounding areas. Our second mission is to encourage and support reading for all.
What We Do
The Free Book Bus serves the children, teens, and families of Charlottesville, Albemarle, Nelson and surrounding counties by giving away books in neighborhoods, shelters, and schools. Our first mission is to reach children and teens who cannot easily access or afford books. Our second mission is reading encouragement - we give out books to all children and teens who would like to visit the bus.
