Who We Are

We are a 501(c)3 non-stock corporation, a charitable and educational organization dedicated to bringing together refugees, immigrants and other people in need in Virginia, surrounding areas and beyond by building a great network to support each other, to make their voice heard, show their existence within the community by doing businesses and contributing effectively to the community life.

What We Do

We foster unity and solidarity among all the refugees and immigrants from the African countries who have chosen Virginia and the United States as their second home.

We help newcomers settle and succeed in their integration within the Virginia and the local Charlottesville community, with the aims of also helping those beyond these communities.

We encourage refugees, immigrants to pursue their education once they have arrived and settled in the United States.

We promote African cultures and identities by having them taught by our experts to those who are willing to learn.

We advocate for refugees and immigrants all over the globe and protect newcomers in Virginia and in the United States ( families and individuals) from being exploited and unlawfully discriminated against their origins, races, religions etc...

We encourage refugees and immigrants living in Virginia and in the United States, to maintain contact with their roots. Likewise, we encourage them to maintain contact with their families who reside in their countries of origin.

We motivate and help refugees, immigrants in Virginia and in the United States to participate and to contribute effectively to the life of their new communities.

All this work align to Africans United Communities of Charlottesville's missions is done throughout the implementation of different programs in specific areas and by providing services in education, health, social services, protection, advocacy, sports, language, housing, employment, assistance for food, utilities and business regulation, financial assistance and all other necessary resources available to ease refugees and immigrants integration within their new communities.
