Who We Are

Food for the Hungry: Loaves & Fishes Food Pantry provides free food--non-perishables, fresh produce, dairy, meats, and baked goods--to help people in need in the greater Charlottesville area feed their families. More than 17% of Charlottesville residents have to choose between paying for housing, utilities, transportation, medicine - or food to feed their family.  With food from the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank and many local grocers, Loaves & Fishes in 2021 gave out 2 million pounds of food to over 52,000 local people which is an average of 38 lbs of food per person (approximately 10 days' worth of food). Loaves & Fishes relies on 90-100 volunteers each week to help us inspect, sort, and pack all donated food, and to distribute food to clients.  Shifts are offered 6 days each week and range in length from 1 to 4 hours.  In 2021, Loaves & Fishes volunteers gave 8,500 hours of service, filling over 3,300 volunteer shifts.
