Who We Are
Our United Way seeks innovative approaches to address critical local issues and brings funding, advocacy and volunteerism to create better outcomes. Our priorities guide both our grants to community agencies and our own direct services, and will move the needle in areas of financial stability, school readiness, and connected communities.
By partnering and encouraging collaboration, our approach enables us to address significant challenges and create lasting, life changing differences for our citizens. It is our hope you will join us with your financial support and volunteer efforts.
Together, we can have a tremendous impact.
What We Do
Our United Way has been serving the needs of our local residents since 1943, when we were founded as the
Charlottesville and Albemarle War and Community Fund by our local Chamber of Commerce. We have always sought to support our community in the best, most efficient way we know. We believe that because of our enduring strength and stability and the breadth of the needs we evaluate and address, our United Way is uniquely positioned to play a leadership role in our community.
By focusing our resources on specific, targeted issues, we can have the greatest return on investment for our donors who share our concerns, and the greatest impact in changing lives.
Vision: A strong, equitable community where every person thrives.
Mission: The United Way of Greater Charlottesville connects our community, enabling individuals and families to achieve their potential.
