Who We Are

Our mission is to inspire and foster exploration of the arts and nature. SCAN was founded with the vision that the arts and nature are integrated. Over the years we have been successful in establishing community outreach through focus groups on the property and at the gallery. We work with the art teacher at the James River Boys and Girls Club in Scottsville by giving members the opportunity to display their artwork in the gallery and through streetscapes--art in local businesses. Again, the camp we held this summer exemplifies all we do from having our campers start their day in nature, moving on to the theater to rehearse their play and closing with art activities at the gallery. The theater and the gallery have given much opportunity for our area residents to come to plays, listen to bands and view the art their neighbors may have created. We believe that the arts--all forms--and nature create a more inclusive community experience for those who wouldn't ordinarily have opportunities to explore their own creativity or the freedom to play in a safe, outdoor space.

What We Do

Scottsville Center for Arts and Nature (SCAN) provides three venues for residents of Scottsville, Southern Albemarle, Buckingham and Fluvanna. The Gallery on Valley showcases the local artists, the SCAN land provides peaceful walking trails with outdoor sculptures and Victory Hall Theater brings actors and bands to the stage. We offer a series of children activities with our recent summer camp meeting with great success, and was attended by children of all socio-economic backgrounds. We offer dance, yoga, drumming, art classes and soon music lessons.
