Who We Are
Founded in June 2008, the Charlottesville Area Tree Stewards is a group of volunteers whose mission is to support rural and urban forests by: increasing public awareness of the intrinsic value and beauty of trees; educating the community about trees and tree care; and partnering with local government agencies and civic groups to improve and restore the tree canopy in the area.
We are a non-profit organization that supports rural and urban forests and promotes knowledge and understanding of the value of trees for present and future generations.
What We Do
Care for trees in parks and public spaces; remove invasive plants that threaten trees and other plants and animals; restore woodlands, educate adults and school children on tree care, pruning and invasive plant management; inventory, map and label trees; identify and maintain a record of notable trees in the area; plant, grow and sell trees inexpensively, etc.
We offer classes and walks to increase knowledge of trees and nature. We do a lot of area projects to decrease invasive plants that destroy trees. We also plant a lot of trees to increase the tree canopy in the Charlottesville area.
