Who We Are

The Schoolhouse Thrift Shop at Rio opened in 1992 to serve the local community by providing goods at low cost and donating proceeds to local charities and outreach programs. As a ministry of Region XV of the Episcopal Church, we raise funds for Habitat for Humanity, Ministry with the Aging, The Alliance for Interfaith Ministries, and the Gertrude Mitchell  House, thereby helping children, women, the aging, and those in need.

Our aim is to provide a welcoming environment and great products within the unique setting of a historical schoolhouse building. The shop is run primarily by a dedicated team of volunteers who assist with the daily needs of the retail store and help direct us in our mission through the years. Volunteering at the Schoolhouse Thrift Shop offers valuable fellowship for those who participate.

What We Do

We sell donated clothing, household goods, books, toys, games, and accessories at low prices, with proceeds benefiting local charities. We rely on a team of over 25 volunteers to assist with daily maintenance, donation processing, and customer assistance each month.
