Who We Are

More than 500 children in the Virginia foster care system age out each year. Without social and/or family support, foster youth experience significant challenges living on their own. Great Expectations offers support and assistance to foster youth to overcome the barriers to educational and training resources. Thus, allowing them the opportunity to fulfill all of their hopes and dreams.

Our mission is to serve current and former foster youth through providing resources, tools, information and guidance to empower them in reaching their educational and career goals while assisting them in their transition into a healthy and successful adulthood.

What We Do

PVCC's Great Expectations program is part of a statewide program that helps current and former foster care youth in Virginia to gain access to a community college education and transition successfully to living independently. Using PVCC's resources and working with the community agencies and individuals, Great Expectations serve approximately 193 annually with a full menu of academic, career, and support services.
