Who We Are

Since 1965, Monticello Area Community Action Agency (MACAA) has led the effort to eradicate poverty and improve the lives of low-income people in Central Virginia. We provide programs that benefit preschool-aged children, teens and adults in our communities.

What We Do

HEAD START Our Head Start program is designed to help break the cycle of poverty by providing preschool-age children of low-income families with a comprehensive early-childhood development program to meet their emotional, social, health, nutritional and psychological needs. Hope House The Hope House program offers housing and intensive case management for families facing homelessness in our community. RURAL OUTREACH Offices in Fluvanna, Louisa and Nelson counties provide emergency assistance to families by providing them with food, clothing and financial resources to cover rent or utility costs. We assess needs and link individuals to resources in the region. Our Fluvanna office operates a Thrift Shop and a large Food Pantry in partnership with the Fluvanna Christian Service Society. PROJECT DISCOVERY Our Project Discovery program specifically focuses on encouraging and helping high school students from low income families prepare for and pursue a college education.
