Description

LVCA seeks compassionate and enthusiastic volunteers to tutor adults in reading, writing, or speaking English. Our students come from various backgrounds and hope to acquire the skills they need to independently pursue life goals, support their families, and contribute to their communities. Help our students achieve their goals by registering for a new tutor training class. No teaching experience is necessary—only a desire to make a difference in an adult learner's life.

TYPES OF TUTORING

  • ESOL –English for Speakers of Other Languages
  • BL – Basic Literacy for Native English Speakers
  • High School Equivalency – including GED, NEDP, and Basic Math
  • Citizenship Preparation
  • Career Training: CNA, ServSafe, etc.

After completing training, volunteers will meet with the Program Manager to discuss availability and student preferences.

WE PROVIDE

  • Textbook and supplementary resources
  • Ongoing professional development workshops
  • Opportunities to check in and connect with staff and other tutors
  • Weekly newsletters

Tutoring can be done in person or virtually. Volunteers must do all in-person tutoring in a public location. LVCA has multiple tutoring rooms at our Jefferson School City Center office.
