Harvest of the Month is a program hosted by City Schoolyard Garden of Cultivate Charlottesville that aims to build capacity, health and food security through exposure to fresh, healthy, and locally sourced foods. Every month we highlight a local harvest and prepare taste tests in the Charlottesville High School and distribute them across Charlottesville City Schools. Volunteers pick up taste tests from Charlottesville High School and deliver them to Charlottesville City Schools where they serve them to students throughout their lunch period.
We typically have 1-2 volunteers across 9 schools that run on average around 10:30am-1:15pm (lunch periods vary by school), although volunteers interested in delivering Harvest of the Month show up earlier at 9:00am. If people are interested, we also have food preparation sessions the Tuesday and Wednesday before from 1:30pm-3:30pm at the Charlottesville High School cafeteria.
