Description

If you are a caring, compassionate and committed individual we would like to invite you to join us in our efforts to end domestic violence in our community. The Shelter is committed to providing a safe, supportive, confidential and respectful environment in which survivors of domestic violence are empowered with the knowledge of personal and community resources, as well as the skills needed to make informed decisions for themselves and their families. We offer a 24-hour hotline, emergency shelter, resource assistance, supportive counseling, information and referral services, legal advocacy, programs for children and teens, Spanish-speaking services, prevention and education programs, and a pet-safe program. Our volunteers are an integral part of our team, with opportunities that include answering the hotline, assisting residents at the shelter, helping with special events, fundraisers, and community outreach, organizing donation drives, children's programming, and providing a safe home for victims pets. All Shelter volunteers are required to complete a training program as well as a background check. As a participant in our training you will receive education on issues of domestic violence, trauma-informed interventions, agency services, advocacy, self-care, and cultural humility. Training sessions begin in March, with two options: (1) Day Track and (2) Evening Track. The Day Track begins on March 23rd and will be held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10am-1pm through April 3rd. The Evening Track will begin on March 16th and will be held two evenings per week for 3 weeks, ending on April 1st.
